I once saw an analogy (actually several times) where one person would stand on a table or anything elevated like that, pretending to be a christian, and another person would stand on the ground next to the table pretending to be a lost person. the person on the table would try to pull the other person up, but wasn't able to, and then the guy on the ground would try and pull the guy on the table down, which he did real easily, and the moral of the story was, don't hang out with the wrong crowd or person, 'cause they can pull you down much easier the you can pull them up.
now there's only one thing missing from this analogy, something that would flip the moral around some.
you're not alone on the table, were not the ones who would really pull others up, its Christ, we are just the tools that he uses to do that.
Jesus said in Mark 2:17, "its not the healthy that need healing but the sick", Jesus didn't say go out into all the world and hang out with the good people. we were sent to the lost people of this world.
well that was my first post, please tell me your thoughts.

Amen Jaron! This was not only eye opening but also challenging.
ReplyDeleteMany of us feel like we are a light to the world when in reality we are only a beacon having the light of the Lord shown through us not by us.
I look forward to reading more of your posts as you continue to write them and I would like to pray for you as the Lord does wondrous things in your life.
May the Lord provide you with abundant wisdom as our Father in heaven gives wisdom liberally to all who asks of it.
Yes, the analogy is faulty. Your point is exactly right. We do need Jesus. However, we also need to have good strong Christ followers to help us on the way. When we go out into the world as Jesus commanded we need not go alone.
ReplyDeleteLove it Jaron!
Great post Jaron. I agree with Missy. We do need to minister to the lost, but the Bible repeatedly warns us (esp. in Proverbs) that we become like whom we hang around. You should "hang" with fellow "irons" and then purposefully go out to minister to the lost with those fellow irons.
ReplyDeleteDon't be un-equally yoked. :)
yea i thought about saying something like that, but figured somebody would say something and I'd just agree with them.
ReplyDeleteso I agree, good point.
hahha Jaron!
ReplyDeleteSo basically its an incomplete analogy that people could use as an excuse to stay in their safe little bubble away from the world.
yea, don't get me wrong, fellowship with fellow believers is very important, I was just addressing the issue of only staying around Christians. I like the way my debief leader from TMI put it, "if you don't have a lost friend, get one!"
ReplyDeleteI think another part of the equation would be to get off the table and develop a relationship with the lost person. Loving them and showing them the love of Jesus.
ReplyDeleteThe point of the analogy you noted is to illustrate the Biblical truth that bad company corrupts good morals. Usually when friends casually hang out is easy to adjust to the lowest moral standard of the group.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly good to interact with non-believers, we are commanded to. But we must have our guard up and have the purpose of the relationship be to either bring that person to salvation or further him/her along he road of sanctification.
